Rest, Community, and Practical Support - A Week in the Life at Elim House

Life at Elim House moves with a rhythm designed to nurture stability, personal growth, and genuine connection. Rather than dramatic overhauls, real progress often shows up in quiet, ordinary moments—a shared meal, assistance with moving, a ride to a medical appointment, or a walk along the shore. Here is a look inside a week within our community.

Sunday Gatherings and Intentional Moments

The week began with our regular Sunday worship service, where Tiffany, Denise, and June gathered together. June, who frequently serves by singing a special worship song, volunteered to lead the congregation in prayer. As she prayed, she shared tears of gratitude, reflecting on her journey as she prepares to transition out of our shelter in the coming week. Moments like these reflect the bittersweet, encouraging milestones that come as residents step forward into independent living.

Later in the week, the shelter hosted a joint farewell worship service for June. Eight members of our community gathered to celebrate her time at Elim House. Over a shared meal and tea, each person voiced their encouragement, personal reflections, and well-wishes for June’s next chapter.

Practical Care and Settling In

Support at Elim House extends into practical, everyday assistance that helps residents build stable lives.

  • Housewarming Visit: Members of our staff, past and current residents visited Jana’s new home. The team helped assemble and install furniture, including a TV console shelf. They brought traditional housewarming gifts like toilet paper and a framed Scripture print, followed by a meal, tea, and a prayer over the new space.

  • Healthcare Accompaniment: Navigating medical care is an essential part of ongoing wellbeing. Our two social workers accompanied Denise to her routine psychiatric appointment, providing transportation and supportive companionship.

Daily Rhythms and Shared Outings

Between major milestones, consistent daily habits and restful outings anchor life at the shelter.

Throughout the week, the Elim House residents set aside dedicated time for daily quiet times and sharing, taking time to discuss Scripture and encourage one another. Either in the Proverbs or most recently studying Genesis, studying the Word has been impactful in revealing hidden sins and the residents are seeking ways to love one another more.

To refresh and enjoy time together outside the shelter, the group took an outing to Eurwangni Beach. They spent the day walking barefoot along the tide line and sharing a local meal of grilled clams. Simple, shared experiences like these create natural spaces for rest, healthy routine, and community bonding.

Through practical help, daily devotions, and shared rest, life at Elim House continues to provide a grounded environment where past and present residents can heal, know they have community and move forward with confidence.
